When thinking about how to install a generator there are a few key factors to consider.
All installations need to be undertaken by a suitably qualified electrician, preferably with experience working with large generator sets as this a specialised field of operation. The generator must be large enough to run the power requirement and the connections and earthing have to be done according to the applicable Zambian regulations.
The copper cable used must be thick enough to handle the amount of current without heating up as per the South African regulations. It is also important that the phase rotation is checked during the installation as this will influence the direction in which important equipment i.e. compressors turn.
The electrician needs to issue a certificate of electrical compliance once the installation has been completed.
