Stage 3 load shedding will start at 17:30 on Saturday 22 February, Eskom said in a brief note.
The power utility did not say what caused the sudden resumption of power cuts, labelling it as “another temporary setback”.
The Stage 3 cuts will continue until “further notice”, it said, adding it will give another update on Sunday.
Eskom last instituted load shedding at the end of January. Before those cuts, South Africans had enjoyed 10 months of uninterrupted electricity supply.
